What 205/50R17 means
205 mm wide (8.1 in), with a sidewall 50 percent of the width (103 mm, 4.0 in), on a 17-inch wheel. Overall diameter is about 25.1 in (637 mm), so the tire turns about 804 times per mile. Every tire compared on this page is this exact size, so the physical fit is the same; the differences are in the ratings and the price.
What the ratings on Armohero and Conti in 205/50R17 mean
Speed ratings. V (up to 149 mph), W (up to 168 mph). The speed rating is the highest speed the tire is built to sustain at its rated load; it is not a recommendation to drive that fast. Replacement tires should match or exceed the rating on your vehicle's placard.
Load index. from 89 (580 kg / 1279 lb per tire) to 93 (650 kg / 1433 lb); 1 of these are XL (extra load) versions, built for higher inflation and load. Never fit a tire with a lower load index than the placard shows.
UTQG grades. Treadwear 400 to 480; traction A, AA; temperature A. Treadwear is a comparison on a government test course: a 600 is expected to last about 1.5 times as long as a 400 under the same conditions, but real mileage depends on driving, alignment and inflation. Traction (AA best to C) is wet straight-line braking; temperature (A best to C) is resistance to heat.
Read from the supplier's description of each tire; confirm the exact tire with the shop before you buy.
